Are you interested in the world famous Miocene fossils that originate from the cliffs here in Calvert County? Would you like to learn more about them, see how they are collected, cleaned and prepared prior to display and/or storage and then see the treasures that the Calvert Marine Museum’s Maryland Center for paleontology has in their collections. This is the auction item for you! The winner of this auction and five of their friends/family will get a private guided tour of the Paleontology exhibit at the Calvert Marine Museum (CMM). They then will get taken back to the fossil preparation laboratory to see and learn how these exquisite fossils are collected, cleaned, and preserved. You will get to learn how field jackets are used to transport the fossils back to the museum, and after preparation how archival jackets are created to protect these treasures for future generations. Finally the group will get a behind the scenes visit to the museum’s Paleontology collections room where they will learn how these fossils are curated and stored. This then makes them available for scientists around the world to come and study. This private behind the scenes tour will be conducted by the CMM Director of Paleontology and the Paleontology Collections Manager who will answer whatever questions your group has. The museum’s treasure vault will be open for you to see and enjoy!
