The primary wood used for this beautiful bowl is cherry, from a tree in Anne Arundel County that had to be taken down before it fell on a house. The curved waves are Khaya ivorensis, commonly called African mahogany, which grows in several African countries and is imported in large quantity into the United States. The bowl is turned on a lathe and then cut on a bandsaw using a special jig to make smooth curves. The waves are glued into place as the bowl is reassembled. It is then turned again and sanded smooth. Finally, a finish of pure tung oil is applied.
6.00% sales tax will be applied to your winning bid.
